Achnacarry is the ancestral home of the Clan Cameron and is located on the isthmus between Loch Lochy and Loch Arkaig.  The name Achnacarry is from Gaelic meaning “field (achadh) of the (na) fish trap\weir (caraidh)”.

The Clan Cameron Museum is located in the hamlet next to Achnacarry Castle which is the home of Donald Cameron of Lochiel, XXVII Chief of Clan Cameron.

Achnacarry was used as a training ground for the Commandos during World War II and was visited by Queen Victoria in September 1873.  Bonnie Prince Charlie passed through the area a number of times during the Jacobite uprising and there are many historical sites worth visiting.
